Human Perspective in the year 2100
In the year 2100, humanity had finally succeeded in creating a sustainable way of life, where economic and environmental interests were aligned. The Earth is now a shareholder in many companies, ensuring that they were guided by both profit and sustainability.
Energy production had shifted almost entirely to renewable sources, such as solar and wind, as well as advanced nuclear technology. Most heavy industries emitting carbon were equipped with carbon capture technology, effectively reducing their impact on the environment.
Urban forests and green spaces had become a defining feature of cities, with people living in sync with nature. The food we ate was grown more efficiently, with indoor and urban farming using less resources and producing more food. Water management was also much improved, ensuring that everyone had access to clean water.
The oceans were no longer littered with plastic, and there were no microplastics in fish. Fishing was now sustainable, preserving the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.
Most electronics were owned by companies and leased to users. Devices were modular, allowing for frequent upgrades, and were optimized for energy use through the interconnected Internet of Things. Users had access to the latest technology, while companies enjoyed a loyal user base, without extracting a lot of virgin materials. 3D printers could be found on every street corner, providing spare parts as needed. Blockchain was integrated into most systems to establish trust.
Most materials were now bio-based, developed using algae and microbes, breaking down and integrating into nature after their use. There was no longer any waste generated, as everything was reused or recycled.
As I walked through the city, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in what humanity had accomplished. The air was clean, and the water was pure. The once barren wastelands had been transformed into thriving ecosystems, with forests and wildlife returning in abundance.
But it wasn't just the physical changes that impressed me. Society had undergone a major shift as well. People were happier, healthier, and more connected to each other and to nature. There was a sense of community and cooperation that was palpable in the air.
It is a world where we had finally found a balance with nature and with each other, and it is a world that would thrive for generations to come.
